When you both agree the marriage is over, no solicitor is required for the divorce. The application, the Conditional Order and the Final Order are all administrative steps you can complete yourselves.

What you do yourselves

  • Complete the divorce application with your marriage and address details
  • Pay the HMCTS fee or apply for Help with Fees
  • Confirm the application after the 20-week reflection period
  • Apply for the Final Order six weeks and a day after the Conditional Order

When a solicitor is still worth it

Take advice if there are pensions of significant value, a business, overseas assets, or if one of you does not know the full financial picture. A financial consent order should reflect informed decisions.
